2000 Tom and Daddy Trip
Cleveland
Writing this in Deecember 2010. Could not find an itinery from this trip
but found a few usable photos and some brochures so Tom and I have been able to reconstruct
the spirit of the trip.
Likely Itinery
- Day 1 - Sea World
- Leave early and drive to Cleveland. Make good time.
- In fact make such good time that we are able to visit Sea World Adventure Park, just outside of Cleveland.
I have a vague memory of Tom perusing the AAA Ohio book trying to find something for us to do that made sense
as we drove into the afternoon.
This is a relatively small park and even though we arrive late afternoon we are able to "see" most of the park,
enjoy a few shows such as the killer whale show, and the "4-D hi-tech Pirates adventure show (see photo with us
wearing our special glasses), and a strolling magic man show (see photo of Tom with magician),
pet some fish and sea mammals, and have dinner with some entertainment. I believe this park closed just this past year.
- Day 2 - Downtown Cleveland
- Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - Spent several hours walking through the exhibits and listening to the music. Lumch in the museum.
- Submarine U.S.S. Cod - this WWII boat, commissioned in 1943, is docked near the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
We took a guided tour of the book which was very nice but even more fun was chatting with the WWII submarine veteran
who was taking entry tickets at the site. Photo shows Tom on the deck, saluting.
- Day 3 - Amusement Park
- Six Flags Ohio - Continuing our recent pattern we include a day at a full fledged amusement park.
Six Flags Ohio had recently added Superman and Batman rides. We spent a full fun day picking and choosing carefully so as
to have fun but not mangle ourselves. I do believe the day included at least one "I'm scared to death but gonna ride this anyway"
type of experience. The park has also been closed, and in fact its history became intertwined with Sea World Ohio (see links).
- Head east. And arrive home the next day.
