Following Aunt Mary Anne's wedding, just north of Philadelphia, Tom and I spend a few days exploring Eastern Pennsylvania. This was just a quick trip, and we did not take a lot of photos. Nevertheless, we share some fond memories of the adventure.
Saturday,
July 12:
Sunday,
July 13: I sleep in as late as I can. Tom and I head northwest, out of the
Philadelphia area. For some strange reason I don't feel like doing too much in
the morning or early afternoon. Continuing our tradition of visiting places
underground, we stop at Lost River Caverns. I appreciate the fact that it is
dimly lit. Later in the day we are driving past Dorney Park and WildWater
Kingdom. Tom, without much hope, suggests we check it out. Feeling guilty for
the way my hangover has been affecting our fun, I agree and we spend the latter
part of the day in this great amusement park. We grab a hotel for the evening
right outside the park.
Monday,
July 14: We leave the Allentown area and head towards Hershey. On the way we
stop at Roadside America, the world's "largest indoor miniature village." This
place was very cool. Its the result of 60 years of work of Laurence Gieringer,
whose hobby is making model buildings.
We get a hotel somewhere between Hershey and Palmyra. The main attraction here is the hotel pool. After a dip, we visit the Costello's in Palmyra. Mark plays with Tom and I have a nice visit with Keith and Louise.
Tuesday, July 15: We again make use of the small hotel pool in the morning. Having already been to Dorney Park, we will not be visiting the main attraction in Hershey, the amusement park. Instead, we take the free tour of Chocolate World and also visit the Adventure Sports facility that is nearby, where we play miniature golf and ride go carts.
In Lancaster I think we stayed at the Comfort Inn, the same place where Kathy and I had our wedding reception. Played in the pool. And out for dinner.
I also have a vague memory of thinking that Tom had poison ivy, buying Calamine lotion for it, spilling it all over him and the car, and later figuring out that it was really hives, an allergic reaction to a coconut candy bar he had eaten.
